Hugo suggested they go to the city to tell Gina and Brendan and get away from things for a while but instead they came across a bus full of schoolchildren which Trey Palmer had placed a bomb under. Hugo and Martha managed to defuse it but Hugo was injured when it was detonated by a secondary. Fortunately, he recovered after having shrapnel removed from his head. He later took Xavier on a snorkelling trip which was cut short when they got lost on the way there. Hugo ended up offering to let Xavier drive back but they were pulled over by Angelo.
Lachie is hospitalised and is told he could be paralysed. Claudia is worried about him and reveals that he is in fact the father and not Geoff. Geoff throws Claudia out, at the hospital Lachie's anger gets the better of him and he launches into a temper against her.

Robbo finds Joey and attempts to drown her, only to be saved by Charlie. Robbo works on the boat with Aden Jefferies and Joey Collins where he enjoys winding them up. He continues his campaign against Joey mainly who he takes issue with because of her sexuality. One day he pushes Joey overboard into the water leaving her terrified of him, she tries to avoid him but Robbo continues to harass her. He tricks Aden into leaving him along with Joey and then sexually assaults her. He threatens her to keep quiet about the incident and she initially agrees out of fear.

Romeo tries to help Gina win John back from his mother. Gina asks him to move in but Xavier once again expresses his worries. She agrees to let April and Bianca Scott move in for a while in return for Xavier being nice to John for two months. John later has a heart attack, this leaves Gina upset and she tells John she loves him. He then recovers and John proposes to Gina, but she turns him down because she assumes he is only asking because he is scared of dying. She later realises she still wants John and they see each other in secret.
She gives Tony a job at the school, but his attempts to introduce boxing lessons annoy Gina. Gina starts dating John again, but Xavier refuses to stand by her this time. When Xavier threatens to move out, she agrees to see John away from their home. She gradually lets John visit the house, which causes more problems. Gina tries to keep out of Tony and John's feud over boxing. Gina finds out Hugo is actually alive and his death had been a cover up.
